Transmission and drivetrain: Constant speed fluctuation — especially in vehicles with continuously variable transmissions (CVTs) — creates more heat cycling in the transmission. It's difficult to put a precise dollar figure on this without long-term fleet data, but automotive engineers broadly agree that steady-load operation is gentler on drivetrain components than variable-load operation.
